INPUT:OUTPUT's Law - Lesson 1

2022. 10. 30. 20:43General

First listen, then you will talk well.
Read the papers, then you will know how to write one.
The more you read the code, the better your code will be.
Always watch professional's playstyle, then now you will be able to play better.
How can you make a fun youtube video without even watching one?

It's a quote I always hear no matter what field I enter.
Chapter 1 of every self-development book about conversation tells you to listen to the other person first.
And I never looked at that kind of book again in this cliche pattern.
It's because I wasn't satisfied with my conversations with other people even after listening and hearing more.

A few days ago, someone said, "Do you know why people have two ears and one mouth?
It means that one should listen to other person twice and talk once."
It's biologically nonsense, but it struck me quite a bit at the time.

Because I was, at least in my opinion, listening much more than speaking.

Since everyone likes to talk about their own story, most writers assumed that the reader will speak more than they listen, but I was rather the opposite.
My ratio of listening to conversations and speaking was close to 3-4 to 1.

That's the moment when I realized!
The important thing is not just to listen a lot, but to adjust the ratio between listening and speaking to the desired ratio to make a ideal conversation.
In the "public speaking" position, where I or the organization is the main => 0:100,
In conversations between friends => 1~2 : 1
When I give advice to my friends => 3~4 : 1
When consulting => 1 : 3~4
Of course, proportion differs base on the situation.

While watching a YouTube video(Korean) today, I realized that this law of Input:Output really applies everywhere.
In the video above, he strongly state to increase the research rate for youtubers, but that's not all!
Watching Netflix for 10 hours every day doesn't make everyone a movie director.
Reading 10 series novels every day doesn't make everyone a best-selling novel writer.
In that case, every modern people who  watch the most fun edited YouTube videos 6 hours a day

should have been a million YouTubers, TikTokers, and video editors.
Why can't one person actually become a content creator or become a professional in a certain field?
This is because the ratio of input and output is not matched.

This is a very natural word, but it is also a very difficult word to keep when you live instinctively.
To give an example, I will set the field as  Algorithmic Problem Solving.

When we see articles like  "How to be Code Force Red (Top 0.3%)" from a LGM (Legendary Grand Master)

 There is something that always appears in common.
JUST FXXING SOLVE THE PROBLEMS
-Umnik (Codeforces Max. Top2)

If you read a lot and focus on solving a lot of problems, your skills will inevitably improve, but when you solve problems, you often spend too much time making friends, showing off your ratings, and choosing what problems to solve.
What is important is to increase the absolute quantity and quality of inputs and outputs.

To add a little bit of humor, the best way to improve your PS skills is to Just Solving Problems.
1. Read the question (INPUT)
2. Solve the problem (OUTPUT)
3. Read good solutions (INPUT)
This is because the ratio of INPUT and OUTPUT is 'well managed' 2:1 with these three procedures.

Algorithmic problem solving ignores various complex OverHeads in reality and solves the most simplified theoretical problems, as if ignoring all friction in physical problem solving and the actual volume of matter in chemical problem solving.
It is easy to match the ratio of INPUT and OUTPUT when solving a abstract, simplified problem like above.

I said as if it was easy to be a Legendary problem solver, but it's not as simple as it sounds. First of all, there are many cases of being blocked at No. 1, and if No. 2. If it was so easy, we would all be LGM. Let's just admit we are just too lazy to even read the solutions after competitions.

Then again, what about real life? Solving problems is difficult and exhausting in many situations, so what about the much more complicated problems of reality? We almost give up in Step 0, which is, starting to get interested in.

If you want to do well in your business, it's easy to get information when you have someone who has built a big business around you, but there aren't any. On the Internet, there are so many frauds and "10K subscriber Youtuber who teach you how to be a YouTuber with 1M subscribers".
Fake, low-quality informations are overflowing.
So! The importance of getting good information shines in the chaos of information.
Meanwhile, getting good information is not the end. There must be a lot of people around you who watch Netflix/YouTube series all the time, who is very sensitive and have an eye for judging what is fun
Excellent. And yet, most of them will not have a related job.
This is because they don't know how to use that talent, that is, how to make OUTPUT.

So far, we've looked at the laws of INPUT:OUTPUT and what happens when the two don't harmonize.
INPUT:OUTPUT is quite long, so from now on, it is expressed as IOR, i.e. INPUT/OUTPUT RATE.
In the next article, we will learn about IORs of celebrities.
